The first team travelled to Kirton Athletic today still looking for their first league victory. With Pricey on nappy changing duties Shaun and Jack took the reigns.
In a strong wind and driving rain the match was pretty even at the start but Kirton had an early chance which was put wide. After around 15 minutes a corner for Sax was collected by Sharman who chipped a cross from the byline for Isaac to finish with a diving header at the far post 0-1.
The game remained pretty even but Kirton would have levelled if not for Dale’s block on the line. Charlie then put wide from a great through ball by Jack, and Sharman shot over after a good passing move. HT 0-1.
The second half started much like the first with neither team on top. After around 10 minutes Sharman won a physical battle with the centre back and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper. 0-2.
This allowed us to soak up Kirton pressure and catch them on the break. They had a lot of possession but struggled to break through our defensive line. However with about 10 minutes to go a deep free kick was volleyed in at the far post to make it 1-2.
This meant we had to suffer 10 minutes of pressure as Kirton threw bodies forward but some strong defending saw it through to the end. Final score 1-2 and a much needed win.
In summary this was not a pretty performance but the boys showed character in digging in to secure the victory.
