After two weeks off the First team resumed their league campaign with a home match v AFC Yourshirts. We started quite brightly taking the game to our opponents creating some half chances, the best of which followed a neat move on the left between Sam, Isaac and Dale resulting in Jack turning and shooting narrowly wide.
The game then became a midfield battle with neither side really creating any clear chances. There were some “strong” challenges, one of which resulted in Jordy being replaced by Sean and the Yourshirts midfielder lucky to escape with just a yellow card. However as the half progressed they got on top and scored the first goal of the game when their striker reacted quickest following a good save by Shaun. It stayed that way until half time 0-1.
The second half started as the first ended with our opponents pushing for a second goal and we were struggling to get a foothold in the game. We did however create a good chance which ended with Joe firing over the bar, and slowly we managed to get into the game.
Our equaliser finally came when Jack rounded the keeper to slot home, and we then had our best spell of the match. However they were still dangerous on the break hitting the bar with a deflected shot. We then took the lead with Joe finishing well after a great ball by Jack 2-1.
We seemed quite comfortable but got caught with 5 minutes to go when their striker managed to latch onto a long ball to score. Final score 2-2.
On reflection a draw was probably a fair result. Both teams had good spells but neither really did enough to win the game. On a positive note it extends our unbeaten run to 4 matches which is a credit to the team after a difficult start to the season.
Next week the First team are home to Somersham in the Junior Cup.
