After months of no football, we were back in competitive action against Coddenham Athletic in the Suffolk Junior Cup.

We started the game slowly and invited pressure early on, but the opposition failed to capitalise and we then started working ourselves into the game. We had a few half chances but nothing clear cut before half time.

HT – 0-0

We started the second half very similarly to how we started the first, on the back foot and invited the pressure on. No clear chances for either side until Banks broke from defence, played a clever one-two with Sax Striker Sharman before slotting the ball into the opponents bottom left corner. One-nil to Saxmundham with 20 minutes left.

5 minutes later Coddenham pushed forward and managed to pull it back to 1-1 with a goal mouth scramble that took them 3 or 4 attempts to finally get the ball in the back of the net.

FT – 1-1. The game was going to penalties.

The Sax first penalty was saved very well by the Coddenham GK, pushing the ball onto the post. But cooly converted penalties by Sharman, Caroll, Mhango & Banks partnered with a couple of missed penalties from Coddenham and a save by Sax Goalkeeper Crockett, saw Sax win the shoot-out.

SAX win 4-3 on penalties to progress into the next round.

This Saturday, The firsts finally have a home game, hosting Needham Market ‘A’ in the next round of the Suffolk Junior Cup.
