The First team welcomed Div 1 leaders Ransomes to Carlton Park for a Morrison Freight Cup match.
The match was pretty even in the first half and Sax took the lead after a spell of pressure resulted in Sean playing a ball over the defence and Harry finishing with a great lob over the keeper. Unfortunately the lead was short lived as a mistake allowed the Ransomes striker to equalise. Shortly after Ransomes scored again to make it 1-2 and that is how it stayed until half time. It was a very encouraging 45 minutes where we more than matched our higher league opponents.
The second half started very much as the first and the next goal was going to be key. Unfortunately another individual error lead to Ransomes third and it was always going to be an uphill task from then on.
Changes were made in shape and personnel as we tried to find a way back into the game but Ransomes stepped up a gear and punished us by scoring 4 more goals in the remainder of the game. Final score 1-7.
The final score is not a true reflection of the match. We matched Ransomes for the first hour but were punished for individual errors. There are lots of positives to take, and lessons to learn, as we move onto our next match away to Woolverstone.
