The Reserves started their league campaign with a tough away fixture at Somersham Reserves on the infamous sloping pitch.
Kicking up the slope we got off to the perfect start with Edward Hadley (sponsored by M&R Cars) scoring with a great shot into the top corner on his league debut, having turned 16 in the week.
Midway through the half we got a second through a fantastic curled effort from the edge of the area by Josh Cornish.
Soon after we made in 3-0 through Olly Seymour who controlled a long pass out of defence to then rifle his shot past the keeper from a tight angle off the far post and in.
We rode our luck at the end of the half when Somersham hit the post followed by a massive goalmouth scramble, and we were relieved to go into half time 3-0 up.
Our opponents made changes at half time which strengthened their side and they soon put us under pressure. Around 15 minutes in they reduced the score to 3-1.
We weathered a lot of pressure and then broke away to score a fourth through Ben Crush (sponsored by Revells Removals) with a clever curled shot into the corner.
We held firm and rode our luck at times until the dying minutes when we conceded two quick goals from long throws which were causing us problems. At 4-3 it was a nervous ending but we managed to hold on for a fantastic winning start to the season.
Richard, Shane and the boys should be really pleased with the performance which included four wonderful goals. Everyone played their part in what was a great squad performance.
Next Saturday the Reserves travel to Bacton Utd 89 A, whilst the First team finally start their league campaign at home to Claydon Reserves.
